Why SCAARS exists.
Dr. Vega-Croker has invested significant time in 3D reconstruction, both for training models and for surgical planning. That work showed him how closely the joints of a limb depend on each other: when one loses its alignment or stability, the way the others are loaded can change too. Correcting the mechanics precisely, and early, is intended to stop that effect from spreading. But some tissues, such as joint cartilage, have very little ability to repair themselves. SCAARS is his systematic way of combining both: mechanical correction and donor cells added to the repair of those tissues, in one operation, for selected patients. The cellular part of the method rests on limited evidence.
It is not magic. It is careful planning, precise surgery and the placement of cells where your own tissue heals poorly. And when the damage involves the whole joint, a replacement or a fusion is usually the better option.
His commitments to you
- An honest assessment. If a replacement or a fusion is the better option for you, he tells you up front.
- Realistic expectations. He explains what SCAARS can and cannot achieve in your case, and what the evidence does and does not support.
- Personal review. He personally reviews inquiries sent to the practice by WhatsApp or email and coordinates your care from the first message to your follow-up at home.
- A plan designed for you. Every surgical plan is prepared for your anatomy and your goals, with 3D planning in selected cases.
